- 1952  The rabbit dance is a remembrance dance. It perpetuates the time . . . when the Indians heard the evil spirit come crashing through the bush to annihilate them. Pretending they were rabbits, they leaped, cavorted and hopped, accordingly. The ruse was successful. The evil one passed, leaving them unharmed.
